Inspired by the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, Dance Me to the Stars explores the vast richness of our universe with pieces like The Moon is Distant From the Sea by David Childs, Child with the Starry Crayon by Eleanor Daley, Ave Maris Stella (Hail, Star of the Sea) by Eva Ugalda and even a unique arrangement of What a Wonderful World. Canzona welcomes Ballet Theatre San Luis Obispo and their artistic director Theresa Slobodnik to share the stage with new choreography of Christine Donkin’s Magnificat, and other selections. The twinkling of stars, the glow of the moon, the warmth of the rising sun and the many mysteries of our universe are sure to entertain and entrance in this afternoon concert of planetary travel!
Ballet Theatre San Luis Obispo was founded in 2006 by Artistic Director Theresa Slobodnik and Assistant Director Blair London. They have been presenting theatrical ballets, first at the Performing Arts Center and continuing in their BlackBox Theatre, where they are known for telling stories on stage and big productions. In addition to the performing company, Ballet Theatre offers extensive ballet classes, bringing passion and artistry to their teaching. Theresa’s daughter Hanna Slobodnik will be the featured vocal soloist in Christine Donkin’s Magnificat.
